Pending validation, South-Africa’s Giniel de Villiers (VW) has won his first stage in the rally raid, his 9th on the total of his participations in the Dakar, 2’18" ahead of his team mate from Volkswagen, Germany’s Dieter Depping, and 4’12" in front of the Hummer of American driver Robby Gordon. Fourth at 5’23", Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (BMW), is today’s top strategist. Indeed, benefitting from a somersault of Spaniard driver Carlos Sainz (VW) in the last part of the special stage, the Qatari has taken the lead in the general standings, 2’24" ahead of South-Africa’s De Villiers, who is also the new second place and 6’33" ahead of "El Matador" Sainz. In the new Open category, it is a new victory for Robby Gordon (Hummer), who gets a nice third place.

Pending validation, US rider Jonah Street (KTM) has won stage 5; it is the American’s first stage victory on the Dakar. He wins with a 7’34" lead over Chile’s Francisco "Chaleco" Lopez (KTM) and an 11’12" lead over the 450cc Yamaha of French rider David Frétigné. Therefore, in the general standings, Spanish rider Marc Coma (KTM), who has lost 15’ today due to a flat tyre, is now 27’12" ahead of Street, which stengthens his position at the top of the marathon category and 39’09" ahead of Frenchman David Frétigné (Yamaha), who is the leader in the 450cc category.

Pending validation, Russian driver Firdaus Kabirov (Kamaz) has won stage 5; it is his first stage victory in this 31st edition of the Dakar but his 26th stage victories on his total participation in the rally raid. He won with a 12’19" lead over his countryman and team mate Vladimir Chagin and a 12’28" lead over Dutchman Gerard de Rooy (Ginaf). By a way of consequence, in the general standings, Gérard De Rooy (Ginaf) remains the leader in the rally but for only 13 seconds in front of the Russian Kamaz of Firdaus Kabirov, who is brand new in second place. The Czar, Chagin, is ranking 3rd, 10’05" behind the Dutchman.

Pending validation, Spain’s Joan Manuel Gonzalez (Yamaha) won stage 5, hence achieving here his 2nd consecutive success on the Dakar with a 24’06" lead over Czech Republic’s Josef Machacek (Yamaha) and 1h11’38" ahead of Italian driver Marcos Patronelli (Can-Am). In the general standings, Gonzalez is now in the lead.

As the first 3 trucks have now reached the end of today’s special stage, it’s Russian driver Firdaus Kabirov (Kamaz) who has won the stage with a 12’19" over his fellow countryman and team mate Vladimir Chagin and a 12’28" lead over Dutchman Gerard de Rooy (Ginaf), who remains the leader in the general standings but with a tiny little 13" lead over his main contender, Kabirov.

Arrived 5’23" after today’s stage winner, Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah (BMW) made the most of the miseries of Carlos Sainz (VW) in the last set of dunes to get to the top of the general standings. The Spanish VW driver arrived at the end of the special stage 15’42" after the day’s winner and 10’19 after the Qatari.

As battle is raging in the last sand dunes of this fifth special stage, the leader in the general standings, Spain’s Carlos Sainz (VW) made a driving mistake and tore off his front hood. Same situation but for the rear hood for Stéphane Peterhansel (Mitsubishi). However, both drivers were able to continue the race.

After the first 9 quads cleared CP1, Frenchman Christophe Declerck (Yamaha) has now put some huge distance between him and the rest of the contenders in the lead of the day’s special stage and was timed 20’06" ahead of Brazil’s Carlo Collet (Can-AM) and 23’26" ahead of Poland’s Rafal Sonik (Yamaha).

In the race with a single-seater buggy, Frenchman Yvan Muller (SMG), 2008 World Touring Car Champion was forced to withdraw at km 40 of today’s special stage after his buggy caught fire probably after colliding with the truck of Portuguese driver Elisabete Jacinto (MAN), whose vehicle is also ablaze. Fortunately, none of the two crews was injured in the incident.

On the trucks’ side, yesterday’s winner and leader in the general standings, Dutchman Gerard De Rooy (Ginaf) will be starting 26th just before the three Russian Kamaz trucks.

Good morning and welcome. At the end of yesterday’s Stage 4, 420 crews - 171 bikes, 24 quads, 151 cars and 74 trucks - finished the stage ane are in the rankings... As to the race, Spanish rider Marc Coma (KTM), winner of yesterday’s stage and leader by far in the general standings, has started the day’s special stage at 7:35 AM as scheduled, followed 2’ later by Frenchman Cyril Despres (KTM).

Stage 5: Neuquen – San Rafael

There are 762.71 km on the menu for the 5th stage, of which 505.64 will be against the clock, over a varied route, alternating between bumpy and quick tracks, as well as some off-track racing with, in particular, the first major sandy stretches and ranges of dunes to be crossed at the end of the specials stage. This could well be an opportunity for Mitsubishi to take advantage of its drivers’ experience and make up some ground on the Volkswagens and especially the BMWs, the surprise package of this start to the Dakar. In the bike race, Frenchman Cyril Despres (KTM) will have same goal, in order to continue climbing up the general standings, whilst Spaniard Marc Coma (KTM) could allow himself to just make sure he loses no ground…

Сегодня на пятом этапе внедорожного ралли-рейда «Дакар-2009» экипаж команды «КАМАЗ-мастер» в составе пилота Фирдауса Кабирова, штурмана Айдара Беляева и механика Андрея Мокеева в острейшей борьбе одержал победу и настиг лидера в классе грузовиков.

Этап 5 «Неукен – Сан-Рафаэль», 7 января

Общая протяжённость трассы – 763 км, скоростной участок – 506 км

Все четыре лидера – экипажи Жерарда де Роя, Владимира Чагина, Фирдауса Кабирова и Ильгизара Мардеева – стартовали на скоростном участке друг за другом, в перечисленном порядке и с интервалом 30 секунд. Легковых автомобилей, которые могли бы хоть как-то помешать российско-голландскому «рандеву» с глазу на глаз, на этот раз между ними не было.

Трасса по-прежнему отличалась разнообразием – прежде всего, всевозможным сочетанием гальки с другими естественными дорожными «покрытиями». То есть частой сменой условий её прохождения. Пилотам и штурманам пришлось даже прокладывать путь среди настоящих песчаных дюн – после 301-го километра и на финишном отрезке. Здесь скорость падала до «внутригородской нормы» – 50 км в час.

На горизонте начали просматриваться белоснежные пики самой длинной горной цепи мира – Андов. Сегодня автомотокараван впервые на ралли поднялся на высоту 2300 метров над уровнем моря. Но это ещё только первая проба настоящего горного воздуха гоночными моторами и членами экипажей. Будут ещё подъёмы и повыше… Длинные участки бездорожья чередовались с «техническими». Это означало, что на чаше весов вместо азарта начнёт перевешивать мастерство и опыт пилотов. И именно на более сложных для вождения участках Владимир Чагин и Фирдаус Кабиров и проявляли себя с лучшей стороны. Они попеременно прошли оба контрольных пункта на 230-ом и 422-ом километрах, опережая де Роя. А на отдельных отрезках в лидерах побывали все трое.

Более 300 км держался вровень с машиной голландца и КАМАЗ № 408 Ильгизара Мардеева. Ни на одном отрезке трассы, вплоть до начала «золотых песков», наш гоночный аргамак – «техничка на трассе» по назначению и сути – не уступал более одной минуты самому «крутому» и «навороченному» из 11 грузовиков GINAF, стартовавших на этом ралли. Отчаянно преследовал четвёрку лидеров и MAN Франца Эхтера из команды «De Rooy». Немецкий гонщик, видимо, не прочь стать дублёром Жерарда де Роя, поскольку другие GINAFы и MANы голландской команды идут гораздо медленнее.

Налицо полное техническое и спортивно-скоростное равенство лучших гоночных грузовиков мира на ралли, среди которых три КАМАЗа. Поэтому у ведущих экипажей счёт потерям времени условно можно измерять в лопнувших шинах или других, равноценных по затратам времени неполадках. Никто не сумел избежать этого, ведь такая «оказия» от гонщиков не зависит. Именно взорвавшимся задним левым колесом и объясняется потеря 10 минут экипажем Владимира Чагина. Остальные узлы и агрегаты пока не подводили.
