Re: Race 21 - Pocono Raceway - Pennsylvania 500

Next - Cup race from Pocono
Morning rain over Pocono Raceway has delayed the start of the race with time needed to dry the massive 2.5-mile track.
NASCAR hopes to start between 3-3:30 p.m. ET.

http://www.nascar.com/2009/races/lap...no2/index.html

12:30 p.m. ET -- Rain forced NASCAR to set the lineup for the Pennsylvania 500 by owner points and as race time approaches, rain is once again a factor.
It's raining in Pocono but the good news is it's supposed to taper off this afternoon and NASCAR hopes to get the track dried for 200 laps of Cup Series action.

1 p.m. -- The rain has all but stopped but now there is a fog over the track. Track drying is under way and NASCAR has all intentions of getting the race in today.
NASCAR Countdown is under way on ESPN.

1:04 p.m. -- NASCAR will throw a competition caution at Lap 20 to allow teams to make adjustments.

1:27 p.m. -- The fog is starting to burn off and track drying continues.

1:38 p.m. -- A good sign as driver introductions are under way.

:56 p.m. -- Barring a change in weather, NASCAR anticipates the green dropping shortly after 3 p.m. ET.

2:01 p.m. -- Philip DeRae, Pocono Raceway chaplain, gives the Invocation.

There are still weather-related issues at Pocono delaying the start of the race.
Sprinkles are still in the area, but the bigger problem is weepers on the race track.

3:03 p.m. -- Weepers are becoming a concern as there are many on the track.
It has also started sprinkling again and teams are putting the covers back on the cars.

3:23 p.m. -- Rain is now falling all around the 2.5-mile speedway.

Postponed - Cup at Pocono
NASCAR waited for more than two hours after the orginal start time but a secondary shower and weeper issues made it impossible to have enough daylight to race on Sunday.
The race has been rescheduled for noon ET on Monday.

http://www.nascar.com/2009/races/lap...no2/index.html

4:06 p.m. -- NASCAR president Mike Helton is on ESPN saying that time is the big issue now.
They need 4 hours to get the race in and it gets dark around 8:30 p.m. ET so they will have to make a decision in the next 10-15 minutes.

4:17 p.m. -- The Pennsylvania 500 has been postponed until Monday.
The green will drop at 12:15 p.m.
ET with ESPN's coverage beginning at noon ET.
