Уволенный в середине прошлого сезона Формулы-1 из команды Toro Rosso американец Скотт Спид (Scott Speed) продолжает строить карьеру в американских гонках сток-каров. 7 марта в Атланте он дебютирует в “младшем” дивизионе NASCAR – серии Craftsman Truck.

В октябре 2007 года, подписав контракт с командой Eddie Sharp, Скотт Спид на автомобиле Toyota Camry дебютировал в полулюбительском кузовном чемпионате ARCA RE/MAX. Американец сразу поехал быстро, закончив дебютную гонку в Талладеге на седьмом месте из 41-го. В первой гонке чемпионата этого года, которая состоялась 9 февраля в Дайтоне, Скотт Спид стартовал со второй позиции и на протяжении 16 кругов лидировал.

Следующий этап первенства ARCA RE/MAX состоится только в апреле, и спонсирующая Спида компания RedBull решила воспользоваться “окном” и заявить пилота в гонки более престижного чемпионата NASCAR Craftsman Truck. Пока известно, что кроме Атланты Скотт Спид выступит 28 марта в Мартинсвиле. В обеих гонках Спид поедет на автомобиле Chevrolet Silverado в составе команды Morgan-Dollar.

Power Rankings: Championship mindset at Atlanta

Is it too early to start talking about the championship?

As ridiculous as that question may sound, since the "regular season" portion of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series calendar is a grueling 26-race marathon — and this week's Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway is only race number four — a look at past versions of the title-deciding Chase for the Sprint Cup shows that if a driver starts the season on a hot streak and puts themselves in a Chase spot after the Atlanta race weekend, they will likely end up battling for the title at year's end:

2007: Following last year's Atlanta Motor Speedway race, nine drivers in the top 12 went on to qualify for the NASCAR playoffs (excluding then championship leader Mark Martin, who only ran a partial schedule beginning last season).
2006: Seven drivers in the top 10 after the Atlanta race weekend went on to compete in the Chase.
2005: Eight drivers in the top 10 post-Atlanta spring race made the Chase that season.

With that fact in mind, this weekend's 500-miler could quickly become a classic. Heading into the race 19 drivers are within 102 points of 12th place Kurt Busch in the standings, meaning we could see a lot of teams and drivers gambling throughout the weekend.

Who will possibly secure one of those coveted top spots in the standings this weekend? Here's a look at the top drivers so far this season.

Дождь в Атланте может помешать гонщикам

Уже во второй раз в сезоне расписание уикенда NASCAR перекраивается из-за плохих погодных условий.
На Atlanta Motor Speedway идет дождь,и пока неизвестно,когда он прекратится.
Практика Craftsman уже была отменена,и если погода не улучшиться,то будут отменены практика и квалификация для гонщиков Sprint Cup.
Если квалификация все же не состоится,то стартовая решетка будет идентична стартовому полю гонки в Фонтане две недели назад.
При таком раскладе на старт гонки не попадут Патрик Карпентье,Майк Скиннер,Джонни Бенсон,Джо Немечек и Берни Ламар.
Отрадно лишь то,что на воскресенье дождя пока не обещается,хотя погода будет холодной и ветренной.

А в CTS примут старт всего то 32 пикапа, с 2001 года такого малого количество стартующих не было, Хорнэдей на поуле, Скотт Спид 28ой. Кстати во сколько у них старт, не подскажете? Как раз стрим на Спид ТВ вменяемо заработал.
